Difference Between Many Types Of Water Filter Systems
October 9th, 2010 Posted in OutdoorWater is one of the most essential elements that all creatures need. For human beings, drinking water has to be pure and hygienic if not clean, unhealthy water can cause fatal health problems and diseases. No matter how tough conditions one is able survive, safe drinking water is always a necessity. That is why explorers pack their outdoor water filter bottles along with other Camping supplies. Yet, water filters are not only a part of outdoor camping gear. They are equally necessary in homes and industries too.
The use of water filtration system is centuries old and since then humans discovered diseases and medicines, they got to know the importance of safe and pure drinking water. Ancient ways of water filteration included boiling and distillation. It is believed that the amount of contaminants found in water today is more than it was in ancient times. Due to this reason, we need more efficient purification systems today.
Tap water is not safe to drink, and has many bacteria, harmful organisms, impurities and other contaminants. Some purification systems may deprive the water of its healthy chemicals and minerals while others might add these essentials in the water. Let’s take a look at few of the most common water purification systems used domestically these days.
Carbon water filters: This type of filters usually has a carbon cartridge composes of coconut husk when the liquid passes through the cartridge, it prevents all the contaminants except for sediments. It is the most commonly used type of water filter in our homes.
Charcoal water filter: It generally has two types, it can be a carbon block filter or Activated Silver Impregnated charcoal filter. Ieither cases, it can absorb more containment than a carbon filter. Yet, carbon filters may not normalize the PH level of acidic water. These systems also come with different micron ratings. Only a filter with a micron rating less than 0.01 is able to filter out viruses.
Ceramic Water filter: The basic element that helps in purification process in ceramic filter is Diatomaceous earth. It is a fossil element that is made up of silicon shells and this element eliminates the tiny impurities and bacteria from the water and a layer of silver helps in reducing growth of these impurities.
Reverse Osmosis: This type of filter systems is known to be the most successful filter system up till now. It clears out most of the residues and impurities that other kinds of filters might have left out. One drawback, however, is the absorption of healthy minerals along other contaminants. According to scientists and researchers, water without these essentials can be equally dangerous. Therefore, these elements must be re-introduced in order to make the water safe to drink.
UV filter systems: In these kinds of filter systems, a high frequency ray is introduced into a glass or container. The light instantly kills all the impurities present in the water. Though, it is a fast and instantaneous way to filter a glass of water, the result is never gaurenteed without a laboratory test.
